He Cries
falling forever in a world of pitch
he tries to get out, but can’t
he tries to reach for safety, but his hold is weak
and he tumbles into an endless hole
he begins to regret everything he’s done
and everything he never did
he wants nothing more than to take back his mistakes
he misses another world
in places elsewhere, people weep for him
a man has his head in his hands
his shoulders shake and his breath is hard
he cries
a girl sits and stares at a wall
her eyes are large and blinking
she understands but wants to be strong. and yet,
she cries
a boy locks himself in his room
he kicks things every now and then in his anger
but eventually he throws himself on his bed facedown
he cries
an old man takes off his glasses
he rubs his tired blue eyes and leans back in his chair
his face has a sparkle where the light glints off a tiny tear
he cries
a woman stands in a kitchen, her mind is full of regrets
she wishes this and she wishes that, but none of it comes true
she tries to wash her dishes, but her hands and shoulders are too shaky, and she sits
she cries
the man keeps falling, wishing he could just stop, but he never does
his hair, long and black as the space around him, flies up above his face
he knows where he’s going, and after all these years of wishing for it, doesn’t want to
a small tear escapes his eyes and flies up away from him
he needs to be back with the others, protecting his loved ones and friends
he needs to help the world, even if he doesn’t know how
he shuts his eyes tight, wishing for the inevitable feeling of ground underneath him
the tears come faster and he lets them, for the first time in fourteen years, he lets them come
